Recently I was asked the following question, “What’s the most important part of the relationship between a FOH engineer and the worship leader?”
There are a number of aspects to that—and any—relationship, many of which are very important. It’s great if the worship leader and sound tech are great friends and hang out all the time; [...]
Let me start off by saying that Tim Corder has done a great job in the last few weeks of writing about monitor mixing. He has several posts tailored for various musicians and even went so far as to include audio examples. If you haven’t already read them, you should. Tim wrote about building IEM [...]
This past weekend at Coast Hills, we had a great opportunity to play around with some new mics. I admit to being somewhat addicted to microphones. I’m fascinated by how different they can sound, the designs, and finding the best mic for the application. And while I’ve played with a lot of them, my experience [...]
Fresh on the heels of my last post, I thought of a few more tips that might be helpful. Actually, Dave Smith over at Creative Church Media reminded me of one, which promoted me to think of a second (giving credit where credit is due…).
ProPresenter is designed to be a “point and shoot” interface. Click [...]

The first [...]
Today was a proud moment for me. My youngest daughter turned 12, which is a pretty humbling thing in itself. More than that, though, she also ran ProPresenter for “big church” for the first time today. And she did it like a seasoned veteran. As I watched her fire off cue after cue with Olympic [...]
Today’s post is again inspired by an e-mail I got the other day (I get a lot of e-mails like this…). This time it was from a friend of mine who is a worship leader at a pretty good-sized church on the west coast. She was asking me at what point I would start hiring sound and [...]
I thought I would jot down a few notes about what I’ve learned in 20+ years of troubleshooting AV systems. For this article anyway, I’ll focus on signal path issues, as those tend to be the most common in churches. While I’ll use examples from the world of sound, the principles are equally applicable to video and data signal lines.
